The strength of communities is the knowledge and experience that can be shared with each other. With LinkedIn Polls you can easily tap into ‘the wisdom of crowds’ and start a poll for free. Polls can be shared with your LinkedIn network and on Facebook or Twitter. LinkedIn Polls can be found in the Applications sidebar (via top-menu More – Your Applications). You can create up to 10 free polls at a time on LinkedIn to survey other members.
On LinkedIn your work history is sorted by date, new to oldest position, and many people asked us if it’s possible to re-arrange your positions in a different order. This is highly desired for people who work on project assignments, like freelancers or entrepreneurs, who prefer to show their company first (see example below). Unfortunately this was not possible until recently. At LinkedIn they have made a few changes and now it’s really simple to make these changes:
After login, click on Edit Profile via the top menu (Profile tab)
Go to the Experience section
Hoover with your mouse over the position you want to move, it will turn light-blue, and drag and drop it in the desired spot
With following companies you get insight into employee moves, relevant job opportunities or the latest products and services. Over 2 million Company Profile pages on LinkedIn just got better with news updates, including multimedia content, released by the company. That’s right, status updates are now also available for companies and its free!
If you’ve been following specific companies (either your own, your competitors or a company you’d like to work for) you’ll now start seeing status updates shared by the company in your homepage news feed. This will not only keep you informed of insightful content from companies you love and follow, but will also let you comment on it, “like” or share with your own professional network.

1) Annual job promotions
Does the best time to be promoted vary around the world? LinkedIn used the data of millions of its international members and confirms that January is the most popular month for promotions. In the US, while January is the top month for promotions, the spread throughout the year is more uniform than the global average.
Did you know it’s possible to re-arrange certain sections of your LinkedIn profile to put more emphasis on your education, work experience or a presentation that you’ve added to your profile? Just go to Profile in the top menu, select Edit Profile and drag the section wherever you want them. This instructional video shows you how to do it.
LinkedIn offers paying members the ability to store profiles in separate folders (5 to 25 depending on the account) in order to organise it. It’s very useful for anyone, especially Recruiters and Job Seeker, during a quick search to save profiles in a folder and organise notes here or add contact details to it. The enclosed video provide more information about this feature:
In LinkedIn you have the possibility to share short news updates, web articles and (YouTube) videos via your own profile with your network. This function was called ‘Status Update‘ in the past, now ‘Share‘, and can be found on top of your homepage after you log in or via the top menu Profile – Edit Profile. Take it to your advantage to become ‘top of mind’ in your personal network.
These updates can be found and seen by anyone in your network (first, second and third degree) . Just make sure you have the correct activity feed settings if you want maximum visibility. You have the extra possibility to post it to your Twitter account, other groups of individual contacts.

Dutch people are curious by nature. There is not a country in the world that checks so often the LinkedIn functionality “Who’s viewed my profile” (this is a fact). I even know users who check it daily. But for job seekers, freelancers and sales people here’s a tip. It’s also an useful tool to gain a better understanding of who found your profile interesting! A friendly message that you noticed that someone, such as a Recruiter, visited your profile can start a dialogue with surprising results.
If you are new to LinkedIn, or spending time to enhance your personal branding on LinkedIn, it’s helpful for establishing a baseline and see if your efforts return results e.g. number of views. And if you noticed that you don’t attract the ‘right’ viewers you may want to change or add a few keywords.
Attached video gives some more explanation about this (paid) functionality for LinkedIn users:
